Allison & Brennon Garrett
Haiti: Advocating for Children, Orphans and the Oppressed
Allison and Brennon Garrett have a heart for Haiti. God opened their eyes to the little Caribbean country after the devastating earthquake of 2010, and they have been obedient to the work He has called them to do there since. Serving in recent years through short-term trips and mid-term commitments, now transitioning to full-time missionaries, they have a passion to share the love of Jesus with the beautiful and resilient Haitian people.
In the past year, the Garretts have been working with Living Hope Haiti Christian Mission in the St. Michel area in Northern Haiti. Some of the projects they’ve tackled include administering a Vacation Bible School for over 150 children from 4 villages, vocational training through the ministry’s trade school, monitoring and helping with the health and needs of the children of the Living Hope Haiti’s orphanage, electrical upgrades and repairs (Brennon is an Electrician, as well as a welder and jack-of-all-trades kind of guy). Their biggest investment of time has been dedicated to forming relationships with the people of St. Michel, gaining a better understanding of the culture and developing a great respect and love for the community.
In order to improve and enrich the lives of the children that reside in the House of Hope Orphanage that is run by Living
Hope Haiti, a successful child sponsorship program was established in early 2015 in cooperation with Foundation for Missions, administered by Allison. Living Hope Haiti has done an exceptional job of nurturing these children on a very tight budget. The children are healthy, happy, and thriving…..but much more is being accomplished thanks to the friends of Foundation for Missions joining hands with them. This sponsorship program is bringing much-needed funds to compliment and expand this God-ordained work.
Looking forward into 2016, the vision of Brennon and Allison has become more focused and they are excited about what lies ahead. Holding tight to Matthew 22:37-39 and James 1:27, they are confident that their greatest calling is to love, being a testimony through word and deed for Jesus. The desire of their hearts is to show love and compassion to the least of the “least of these,” to advocate for children/orphans/the oppressed, and to make themselves and their gifts completely available to the Lord’s will. They know they will need to have flexibility, tenaciousness, and great discernment as they proceed deep into these unknown waters.
Allison and Brennon have two daughters, Lesley and Brianna. The entire family was born and raised in western Kentucky, but Haiti is undoubtedly their second home. Allison and Brennon have been married for 22 years, are best friends, co-sojourners, and enjoy tackling new adventures together. Lesley attends college in the U.S., preparing for her future, passionate about social and environmental sustainability and making the world a better place to live. Brianna is a creative girl, a middle school student that homeschools while in Haiti, and is an avid adorer of kitty cats.
